Coco López is the Puerto Rican brand behind the original cream of coconut, a smooth, sweet coconut cream that has become synonymous with the piña colada. It was developed by Ramón López Irizarry, a professor of agricultural sciences at the University of Puerto Rico, who set out to find an easier way to extract the cream from coconut pulp. The result was a rich blend of coconut cream and sugar that made the flavour of fresh coconut easy to use.

Today, Coco López is known around the world as the key ingredient in the classic Puerto Rican piña colada, the island's official drink. Sweet, creamy and consistent, it is a staple behind bars everywhere and is just as useful in tropical cocktails, blended drinks and desserts.
