Coco Lopez

Over half a century ago, Don Ramon Lopez Irrizarry developed the original Coco Lopez.

Living in Puerto Rico, Don Ramon tried to find an easier way to access the delicious taste of coconut meat. Up until then, it was a task itself just getting to the heart – having to break through the rock hard shell at just the right moment if you wanted to get that perfect flavour.

An island favourite

In his small laboratory, Don Ramon developed Coco Lopez. A delicious cream made from the meat of the coconut blended with natural sugar, carefully measured and at the perfect combination of pressure and temperature, resulting in the pure, smooth coconut cream.

It didn't take long before it became an island favorite, mainly used by the residents to prepare traditional island dishes. Maybe more famously, it was used for the very popular tropical drink Piña Colada.

As the popularity of Coco Lopez grew, Don Ramon’s small factory was unable to keep up with the demand. In the late '60s, Coco Lopez and Inudstrias La Famosa, Puerto Rico’s largest processors of canned products, agreed to join forces for the mutual goal of large-scale production of Coco Lopez and it has since then expanded to being distributed all over the world.
