Irish Coffee

Originally called the Sheridan's Gaelic Coffee was created in the winter of 1944-1945 by Joe Sheridan from Castlederg. The chef turned bartender was working at Foyne's Port and was attempting to warm a group of American travellers on a cold winter evening. Sheridan added whiskey to hot coffee and was asked if he was serving Brazilian coffee to which he answered: "It's an Irish Coffee."

Now popular across the world, the drink is traditionally served in a stemmed heatproof glass and consists of hot filter coffee, Irish whiskey and brown sugar topped with lightly whipped cream. A great cocktail for a cold evening.
